NW Sustainable Building Products is a Zero Waste Facility. Our sawdust is bagged and sold for animal fodder, Cedar fall-down is collected and re-sawn for Salmon Roasting planks, all remaining viable wood pieces are collected and either sold or donated for crafting or fuel.
NWSBP has been serving the Northwest since 1963, visit our lumber yard and showroom for all your deck, fence, and outdoor lumber supplies. Western Juniper, The Ideal Outdoor Wood
There is no better choice for outdoor applications than Western Juniper. Lifespan rated at 50+ years in ground, even the most toxic treated products fall short. Fence posts, arbors, retaining walls, raised beds, planters, decorative accents, and decking are all ideal placements for Juniper. You can take confidence that not only will Juniper far out last the toxic alternative, but that Juniper is completely child, pet, and garden safe.
Western Junipers benefits go much further. Using Western Juniper benefits not only the user, but the environment as well. While Juniper is Native throughout the western US, certain species like Western Juniper have become a serious problem in fragile high desert eco-systems. Juniper can be invasive under the right conditions and unfortunately this has happened throughout key areas of eastern Oregon. Overgrowth of Juniper has led to water table, grassland, and wild life habitat reductions (see data and story links below). Because Juniper had never been considered a commercially viable forest resource the solution up to this point had been to simply cut it down and burn it, wasting a tremendously valuable resource.
Now with the coordinated efforts of wide ranging stakeholders, Western Juniper is being made available as one of the truly great advancements (and stories) in sustainable and eco-friendly forest products. NWSBP is proud to offer Western Juniper posts, decking, and other dimensional lumber products to both wholesale and retail customers through our SE Portland facility.
